How to scratch it without damaging the map
Use the scratch pick included in the tube, a coin, or the edge of a plastic card. Work in short, light strokes and go over the same spot two or three times rather than pressing hard — pressure is what scores the paper beneath the foil. Start in the middle of a region and work outwards towards its border, so you arrive at the outline under control. Brush the loose foil flakes away with a dry cloth as you go; a damp cloth softens the paper and lifts foil you meant to keep.
Avoid keys, penknives and scissor blades. Removed foil cannot be replaced, so take the first few regions slowly. Full guidance is in our scratching guide.
Framing and display
The map arrives rolled in its tube. Let it lie flat for a day, weighted at the corners, before framing or scratching — a curled map makes the pick skip. The dimensions match standard off-the-shelf frame sizes including IKEA's, so you do not need anything custom. A frame is not included.
If you plan to keep scratching, mount it so the surface stays reachable rather than pressed tight under glass. Once your travels are done, glass protects the finished map.
